We support local suppliers, and use as many as we can for our teas, coffees, bread, milk and banana cakes. And so it seems do our caravanners, who have started sending us pics of themselves at various local factories, including this one...
More than 60,000 Australians who served in the Vietnam War were recently honoured on the 47th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan. In attendance at a local memorial service were some of our caravanners, including (from left to right) Steve Dennis, Peter Newland, Max Godwin and John Parsons.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them. Lest we forget.
We love these pics... Not quite sure the mackerel does, but we certainly do! Good work Lisa Flatters.

And here is an amazing video taken by Mission Beach Charters this time last year. Enjoy!
Over the last few days people have been telling us about all the whales swimming about between Dunk Island and Bedarra. Well, we are lucky enough to have a couple of amazing photos sent in by campers who have come pretty close to them, including the one below. And we've thrown in a couple of our favourite whale-related jokes for good measure. The Water Taxi, Mission Beach Charters and Big Mama Sailing are who you need to call if you want to see a whale for yourself (in real life). Oh, and the answer is: "Nothing, it just waved."
'Evening campers! We hope you're enjoying the amazing weather as much as we are. We've been fixing a few bits and pieces lately and doing some gardening, so if there is anything which needs screwing then let us know while we've got our tools out.
Mission Beach State School (the school right next to the caravan park) will host this year's Banana Festival on Saturday the 24th of August. It takes place from 3pm until late and from what we gather there will be stalls and entertainment galore. Apparently Benny the Banana might be making an appearance as well. We have no idea who Benny the Banana is but we did a quick internet search and we think he might be this particular fun-loving dancing phenomenon.
We've still not recovered from Sunday's BBQ but we owe a massive thanks to everyone for a great night. The pig was a little toasted on the outside (pig brûlée we call it) but really nicely cooked all the way through. And it's lucky we didn't sell more than 110 tickets to the feast because there was not a lot left over! Anyway, thanks campers, and thanks pig. Here are some photos of the event. Don't forget to scroll all the way to the bottom for our favourite pig joke.
A man and his pet pig walk into a bar. It's about 5pm, but they're ready for a good night of drinking. They start off slowly, watching TV, drinking beer, eating peanuts. As the night goes on they move to mixed drinks, and then shooters, one after the other. Finally, the bartender says: "Last call." So, the man says, "One more for me... and one more for my pig." The bartender sets them up and they shoot them back. Suddenly, the pig falls over dead. The man throws some money on the bar, puts on his coat and starts to leave. The bartender, yells: "Hey buddy, you can't just leave that lyin' there." To which the man replies: "That's not a lion, that's a pig."
The Owners of Dunk Island View Caravan Park would like to extend a very warm welcome Sue Van Wessem and Shaun Lambert who have recently taken over the management of the park. Sue and Shaun will be posting updates from time to time on this page. This is the place to find out what's been going on and what exciting things we have coming up...
