Where Exactly is Mission Beach, Queensland?

28/4/2017

I've been asked this question a couple of times and I realised that it's a fairly common question to ask if you live south of Far North Queensland.

Mission Beach is midway between Townsville and Cairns and if you're driving up you will pass many sugar cane and banana farms  along the way. As well as seeing large areas of farmland you'll also pass by many rainforest national parks, which are quite spectacular.

Mission Beach is made up of four beachside villages  which are linked by a 14 kilometre stretch of  golden sand. Being ideally situated between Townsville which is only a 3 hour drive south, and Cairns which is a 2 hour drive  north, Mission Beach is the ideal spot for a weekend getaway or an extended holiday.

We have so much to offer here with a range of activities to keep you occupied as well as a blend of eateries to suit every taste and the rainforest and reef ready to explore.

A Spectacular Day at Mission Beach

Today was one of those days when your dreams of being in a tropical paradise  came true! The weather was fantastic with a smattering of clouds and a gentle breeze blowing.

A stroll along the uncrowded beach was so beautiful. Small waves were breaking on shore and the water temperature was warm, so if a swim was in order it would have been the best time to dive in.

The scenery is spectacular and Dunk Island is just offshore and just waiting to be explored. That's a project for another day, but from what I've been told about the island, I can't wait to get over there.

Mission Beach is one of the best areas to come to if you love bushwalking as there are so many trails and the walks along the beach are spectacular. If you're willing to be a bit more adventurous then you can try sky diving, which is very popular here or you can just sit quietly on the beach and read a book.

We are so lucky living in such a beautiful place and  I'll be sharing more posts from our new home with you in the near future.

ANZAC Day Tribute

ANZAC day means a lot to the many families who lost  loved ones during the many wars the world has endured and in particular the battle at Gallipoli during World War 1.

It's a day to say "thank you" to  those brave defence force personnel who fought and died for our freedom. I lost an uncle during World War 11, when his ship, HMAS Sydney was sunk off the coast of Western Australia.  He was only 19 and I never had the chance to meet him.

As a tribute to the ANZAC's , my husband Graham has been busy baking ANZAC biscuits to sell in our cafe. He has received many compliments from family and friends about his baking skills, so if you're in the area. call in and try some!

The Cassowary

I currently live on the Cassowary Coast and I wondered what I could find out about this most unusual bird and I found the following information.

The cassowary, looks like a giant prehistoric turkey walking on stilts with a large pointed helmet on its head. It is the second largest bird in the world. It is also the most dangerous bird on the planet. If threatened it will  attack with a swift karate-kick with its powerful legs equipped with dagger-like claws.

This endangered dinosaur bird is a shy solitary animal that lives in the rainforests of northern Queensland in  Australia.

With only 1,200 left in the wild, this endangered bird faces certain extinction. While the cute  Koala  gets all the attention, the oddball cassowary, which is actually far more endangered than the koala, gets little funding and attention. It may not be long before it too becomes extinct.

The Start of a Beautiful Day

The one thing that sets this place apart is the beautiful sunrises over the ocean and it's right across the road from our caravan park. It's a great way to start the day in the peace and quiet of a still morning.

There are certainly days when you wake up to a downpour, but when you live in the tropics it doesn't surprise you.Even when it rains it's still very warm and the rain will not stop you from exploring this beautiful area.

I've been told that Mission Beach is one of the best places along the coast for sky-diving, so for all those thrillseekers this is one activity you must try during your stay.

There is plenty to do here apart from checking out the beautiful Barrier Reef. If you like bushwalking there are plenty of trails here for you to explore. You can rest assure that a holiday spent at Mission Beach will be an unforgettable experience!

Hello everyone! My name is Sue and my husband Graham and I are the new Managers of the Dunk Island View Caravan Park. We've been to Cairns before but this is our first experience of this part of Far North Queensland. What a beautiful place to work!
We've come from Brisbane so this is a new lifestyle for us and so far we are loving it! The caravan park is really lovely with manicured caravan and camping sites  and well appointed cabins, and the bonus is that we are only 50 metres from the beach! We are also very fortunate to be working with a great, highly experienced team, all of whom have a superb service ethic. They have made our introduction to this role a most pleasant experience.
Our aim is to make your stay a wonderful experience and we are committed to ongoing improvements to park facilities and services.
Come and visit us and enjoy everything the Cassowary Coast has to offer in a prime location.
Kind Regards,
Graham & Sue Denny
