This lady is the real deal. 64-year old Diana Nyad swam across the Florida Straits from Cuba to Key West, completing a 111-mile journey lasting just under 53 hours. On Monday, at her fifth attempt — 35 years after her first — Nyad accomplished what no other athlete has ever done, contending with the threat of bull and tiger sharks, swarms of box jellyfish, as well as squalls and unpredictable Gulf Stream currents, and never once holding onto so much as the side of a dinghy for a rest. Afterwards she said: "I've got three messages, One is we should never, ever give up. Two is you’re never too old to chase your dreams. Three is it looks like a solitary sport, but it is a team."
