Tobruk Memorial Baths is a beautiful complex of outdoor swimming pools located on The Strand in Townsville. We went there on our day off yesterday and we were most impressed. The lap pool is heated which makes it really nice to relax in, but just try swimming long distance and it's a whole different kettle of fish! We had never swam in a pool so warm before, and we were surprised by how quickly it caused fatigue compared with cooler water. Anyway, we had to Google this phenomenon and according to the internet most swimmers prefer colder water because not only does warmer water make you drowsy, it also heats swimmers up, making it very uncomfortable to swim long distances. In fact, colder water is scientifically proven to boost swimmers' endurance and make them swim faster. Freaky, but those are the facts people.
